Yarn

I've had many questions on where you can find materials for these doll tutorials. I usually just go my local arts and crafts store for yarn. I would recommend going to Michaels and A.C. Moore if you have those in your area. If you don't then you can just go to their websites here: Michaels , A.C. Moore .These two stores have a great selection of yarn and supplies as well. Now, they don't have every color you want in the store. You might want to try their websites if you are looking for a particular color that's not found in the stores. Joann does not have a large selection of yarn where I live, but their website has a larger selection. Keep in mind that the color you see in the screen might not be the actual color. Buy a smaller skein of yarn before you make a larger purchase. I did some research and I found that these sites are excellent online yarn stores: WEBS , Yarn Market , The Yarn And Fiber Company , Red Heart Super Saver . Of course the yarn you pick depends on what you are making and who you are making it for. If you are making a toy for a baby or a young child it might be better to pick yarn that has less "fuzziness". Babies like to chew on things and the fibers may get ingested. So I would suggest you pick something soft but not too fuzzy. For young children you can use Red Heart Super Saver Sport yarn. Typically, children are rough with their toys and they leave them laying around the house where it can trampled. Red Heart Super Saver is a pretty tough yarn to use and it can handle roughness very well. They are also cheaper than most yarns you find out there. I use this brand all the time.

Button Eyes

Finding sackboy eyes is pretty hard these days. When I first started making a sackboy, it was fairly easy to find it in Joann. Nowadays, they don't have the size I'm looking for. It is either too big or too small. The other buttons they have there have holes in the middle or are not shiny enough. We all know that sackboy's eyes are very shiny. So, first of all, if you are looking for these buttons, you can find them in your local Joann store. If you can't find them don't go on their website. If you try to search for these buttons on their website, you will not find them. I scoured the site and looked thru their list of buttons, but I still couldn't find them. I would suggest that you go to an online store called The Button Drawer . They have an enourmous selection of buttons and at very cheap prices too. I got three buttons in Joann for $1.50 and at Button Drawer, you can get it for 80 cents. To find the buttons you just need to go to "Product Search", which is at the top of the page and enter the product name or the item number. The product name is Boise-B and the item number is JHB48554. This item number is for the three quarter size button, which is what I use on all my sackboy dolls.

NOTE: The button drawer has gone out of business. I now use buttons I found at Walmart. The brand is Le Bouton. Size is 3/4" (19MM). The product number is 7536. Although these button are a little bit thicker and a tad bit smaller in diameter, they are still make really good Sackboy eyes. The best thing about them is the price. They come in sets of 4 buttons and they are only 62 cents. When I saw them in the store I just grabbed them all. There were only 3 of them there, but I had to take them all because I didn't know when I was going to find them again. Also check out etsy. You might get lucky and find them there as well. There was a listing of 13 buttons that were similar to the Walmart ones, but I didn't buy them and now they're gone. These buttons are actually really hard to find.

As for the buttons I used for the Mushrooms and Luma, I got those from a seller on etsy. Here is the link to the listing: Flat Black Oval Safety Eyes . Don't worry if it says that the listing is "Sold". You can definitely message her and ask her to set up another listing. She has plenty of them. This is the only place I could find these buttons and the seller is really nice and ships fast as well.

Darning Needle

If you don't have one already, get one. It is a very helpful tool to use when sewing up parts of dolls. I got mine at Joann's Website . These are fairly sturdy and they don't break. What's really nice about this is that it has a bent tip for convenience. So if you buy these on the site, you get two of them and they come in a plastic container. The container that you get might look different than the picture. They don't really give you a choice with colors. I have one that is clear with a blue cap and bottom. Also, if you are picking out stitches, this would be the tool to use. You can also get them from Amazon .

Crochet Hooks

The brand that I use is Boye. They're pretty sturdy. I got them as a set of 24 on Joann's website. You can get yours here . Materials on Joann are always on sale.

Zippers

I usually get my zippers from Joann or at Walmart.
